Overview

In the era of communicational boom, communication in English with computer skill is highly advantageous to procure jobs in Media and IT sector. Besides, students have a flair for literature, to quench their thirst and at the same time it helps them build their career in a profitable manner. The B.A. with CA was started in the year 2011 and M.A. in the year 2014. The department has branched out its research status with the autonomous position of the college in 2016. The department gives room for students to hone their language and literature knowledge on par with campus and corporate English.

This course is:
  • To make the students fluent users of the English language.
  • To offer exposure to literary/cultural traditions that expands their horizon of imagination.
  • To widen the literary discourses and accommodates more contemporary interests.
  • To pave way for creative writing to excel in freelancing.
  • To enable the students to equip with the latest technology oriented curriculum.

PROGRAMME EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES

The Curriculum is designed to achieve the following learning goals which students shall accomplish by the time of their graduation

  • To acquire a detailed knowledge and understanding of selected fields of study in core disciplines in the humanities, social sciences and languages
  • To enable and to gain advanced knowledge of the history, structure and uses of the English Literature and Language
  • To be committed to continuous learning and to qualify for employment in a wide range of occupations
  • To enhance the habits of effective reading and writing skills especially for academic purposes
  • To stimulate an interest in mounting academic discipline with a view to encouraging progression in research

PROGRAMME OUTCOMES

On successful completion of the programme, the following are the expected out comes:

Bridge Course

English Department has taken on a pilot project conduct Bridge Course to train students of different levels of competence and skills. It gives adequate exposure to English for rural and semi-urban students. Bridge course was conducted in the beginning of the academic year.

Remedial Course

Remedial Course is conducted every semester soon after the University exam results. It is very effective in finding the right triggers which will ensure the slow learners to meet their goals.

BEC

The Business English Certificate Course is offered by the University of Cambridge UK. Cambridge English: Business Certificates are trusted and globally accepted by leading employers, educational institutions and governments worldwide. This certificate helps one to achieve ones ambitions to:

  • Work abroad
  • Work with international organizations in one's own country
  • Study business-related subjects taught in English.

The training for this course is provided by the Department of English to the students of all disciplines. The training programme commenced in the month of September 2012. Students were trained with the help of various teaching aids and also they were made to take up many Mock Tests prior to the exam.
