Board of Studies (BOS)

Board of Studies (BoS) is the basic constituent of the academic system of an Institute. BoS of Dr.NGP Arts and Science College is composed of members from reputed institutions like National Institute of Technology, Indian Institute of Technology, Indian Institute of Science, and Central University.

Staff Member of the department Three Staff Members representing 2 senior staff and one staff with more three year of teaching experience.
Co-opted Member Chairman of the BoS of Part I and II Language, Intradepartmental Courses (UG) and Extra departmental Courses(PG) courses of the offering department.

The term of the nominated members shall be three years.

Periodicity of BoS meetings

The BoS will meet twice in an academic year in the month of March/April and November/December


  • Prepare Curriculum and syllabus of the programme and submit to the SCAA and Academic Council for approval.
  • Suggest the self study courses, Industry linked certificate progrmmes and Value added courses to be offered to the students.
  • Revise / update the contents of the syllabi from time to time and submit to the SCAA and Academic Council for approval.
  • Suggest methodologies for innovative teaching (ICT) and evaluation techniques.
  • Suggest panel of examiners to the Academic Council for End Semester Examination.

Curriculum Development Cell

Always, there are new ways to put things together in s little different way, to be more systematic or to adjust and adopt new situations. We borrowed ideas, from various sources on the concepts for Curriculum Development, progress planning, evaluation and training. This is to build the best practices from theory and practice of curriculum development, program planning, evaluation and student development.

Each step in the curriculum development process builds on the previous step to provide systematic approach. The curriculum development process systematically organizes what will be taught, who will be taught, and how it will be taught.

The curriculum development is a team process. The team makes a systematic decision on the learner’s characteristics, indented outcomes, content, methods and evaluation strategies.

The Curriculum Development Cell is functioning effectively in Dr.N.G.P.Arts and Science college under the guidance of Principal, Dean Academics and Dr.S.S.Sudha is the coordinator of the Curriculum Development Cell since from 2015.The members are as follows

CDC Roles & Responsibilities

  • Identifying niche areas and suggesting new programmes which would enhance the skills of the student to meet out the industry requirement.
  • Designing the curriculum and framing regulations and guidelines for all programmes in line with UGC and TANSCHE.
  • Coordinating the process of framing the Syllabus and orient the staff about hours of instruction, credit points etc.
  • Communicating the Syllabus, duration of the course, marks and Credit etc. to the office of Controller of Examinations
  • Organizing Board of Studies Meeting, Standing Committee on Academic Affairs and Academic Council Meeting twice in an academic year.
  • Planning for new avenues for students (self study, Extra credits, Skill enhancement ) in based on the feedback received from the stakeholders, framing the guidelines for the award of extra credits.
  • Formulating the Rubrics Assessment pattern in consulting with principal and Dean Academics.
  • Communicating the BoS chairman about the UGC guidelines in academic matters
  • Orientation of staff on OBE and formulating the modalities and norms to be follow in the attainment of OBE.
  • Convening SCAA and AC and implementing the suggestions received by communicating the departments.
  • Obtaining Feedback on the curriculum from stakeholders and implementing the suggestions received from them.

Value Added Courses


Students need to be trained and evaluated with the multifarious skills for any employability. Pursuing multiple long-winding degree programs is no answer to get a job in the current scenario. Rather than spending a lifetime seeking higher qualifications, Value Added Courses imparting transferable life skills and it gives a chance to update the skill set in only a fraction of the time and money. But, the value they create is very high. Value Added Courses are a fine way to fill the gaps in the knowledge and add competitive edge to the job prospects. As systems, programs and practices change, making it critical for job-seekers to have a range of competencies, Value Added Courses can help an individual to be a winner.

Starting off with a Value Added Course helps everyone to have a foundation on which to build a great career. Many of these courses may help to create an own enterprise and improve the further qualifications to fit the current industrial relevance. The courses are run by the departments on need basis including some private Educational Service Providers. The duration depends on the course which is conducted. Each course has its own assessment pattern, both practical and theoretical. Successful completion of the course earns a certification.

Data Visualization and Big Data Analytics

The program builds a solid foundation in Data Science & Analytics by covering industry standard tools and techniques through a practical, industry oriented curriculum. The program assumes no prior knowledge of coding in Python, R or SQL and begins from fundamentals. The course includes data visualization by using, Tableau Power-BI , Data Science, Hadoop, big data with Apache Spark, machine learning for data science, IBM Watson analytics, business use cases of big data and data science and much more. Whereas the elective course comprises of Scala, Qliksense, marketing analytics, social media analytics, machine learning with Microsoft Azure, MongoDB, Apache Hive, Apache Pig, fundamental of financial statement analytics, big data on AWS: Amazon Elastic MapReduce (EMR), amongst others.

GST Practitioner training

The Central Government has been taking various steps towards the implementation of the country’s most ambitious indirect tax reform of Goods and Services Tax from 1st July 1 2017.

To cope up with the ongoing changes and bring greater awareness about the new tax structure and policy, the competent authority has decided to introduce the GST Practitioner Training. The objective of this Course is to enhance the knowledge as well as to provide benefit to the members in the global service market. The participants are expected to have basic knowledge of the subject. Certified Training Organised By MSME – Technology Development Centre. Chennai.

GST Practitioner Training covers Definition and Concept under GST, Levy and collection of GST, Time of Supply, Place of Supply, Input Tax Credit, Valuation, Registration, Refund, Assessment, Offences, penalties, Advance Ruling, Annual Return and Audit in GST. Duration of the course 30 hours.The purpose of this course is to develop skills from beginning to end in the respective areas of GST in order to make them advance knowledge of GST

Business English Certificate

The English Department of Dr N.G.P. Arts and Science College has been providing the Business English Certificate course training for the students of various departments since 2012. To add a pearl to the department’s crown more than five thousand students have been highly benefitted through this BEC training and certification. Business English Certificate is one of the most significant courses offered by the University of Cambridge, London. It assesses one’s language competency in a business context and helps an individual who aspires for a lucrative job and decides to pursue tertiary education abroad. The test has three levels preliminary, vantage, higher and consists of four language skills namely listening, reading, speaking and writing. It is held on various fixed dates in centers worldwide and has two modes of conducting LRW examinations which include paper and computer based however the speaking test is always an interview with two examiners. The tests are conducted periodically; candidates must register for the exam through an authorized centre. The British Council, the United Kingdom's International Organization administers all the Cambridge examinations for cultural relations and educational opportunities. Every year British Council administers tests in our college premises as our college is authorized as the BEC Examination Preparation Centre.

Voice training

The Value Added Course aims at providing an opportunity for students’ to gain knowledge in skill oriented technical training in English Language. Its key objectives are to improve the employability skills for the students and help the students to think and work independently in English language competency. Likely it enables the students to develop their vocabulary and moulds the students to focus fold aspects of English language Techniques. To attain basic caliber in expressing one’s feelings and thoughts through oral and written the course provides good learning platforms in English language and also develop reference and inference skills given on any content in English. Through vocabulary enhancement and other required language skill development like oral-rehearsal the value added course intends to impart a proper understanding and autonomy of English language use and impediments in obliged environments.

Elangovadigal Tamil Centre

The centre is functioning successfully in Tamil department since the inception of the college. Every year the centre conducts various competitions for students in order to hone the literary talent in them. World Tamil Cultural Centre

World Tamil Cultural Centre functions as one of the significant parts of Kovai Medical Center Research and Educational Trust. Dr. Nalla G Palaniswami, Chairman, Kovai Medical Center Research and Educational Trust inaugurated the centreon 13.03.2013 which aims to promote goodwill and wealth of Tamil language.
